You know those places you stumble into, maybe with vague memories of what you ate or whether you actually even looked at the menu? Well, that’s Boudica for you, and, honestly, all you need to know is that it’s good and that i’ve been there a few times now, it’s a solid fave
N and I headed over there for one of those classic catch-ups that’s equal parts “spilling life updates” and “sipping on coffee that makes you question your entire existence.” Boudica’s got this great vibe where you instantly feel like you’re in the heart of somewhere effortlessly cool. No frills, no fuss, just the right kind of atmosphere that makes you want to settle in and people watch like you’re in some indie film
We snagged seats outside because why not feel a bit like Parisians for a day? Leaning back in those sidewalk chairs, basking in our cups of dark, mysteriously good coffee, it all felt a bit chic really. The coffee, by the way, is serious. Dark, just the right side of strong, with a richness that makes you wish you’d ordered a second cup to follow up the first. And I say this without any memory of the exact brand or how they brew it, but, I’ll just put it this way, if you’re looking for a reliable caffeine boost with some depth, Boudica’s your spot
As for food? I have, unfortunately, zero photographic evidence and only vague taste memories. N and I had something, which was satisfying and exactly what we needed, but the conversation is what I remember best. We sat there, covered all the important life topics (and probably some wildly unimportant ones), without any rush or weird mid convo interruptions from hovering staff. The team at Boudica has this sixth sense for leaving you alone when you’re deep in discussion, but always appearing like clockwork just as you’re about to consider a refill
So, if you’re ever in the Hove and Brighton blur, and want a little haven with killer coffee and a cozy seat where you can chat like a local, this place is a gem. Definitely coming back for a second round
