Just over a month ago now, actually I think it was my birthday actually, I found this little gemstone in a local charity shop, and I love a little self help book. I’ve only just finished it, and it’s been a real eye-opener. The book outlines Rubin’s year long journey to enhance her own happiness through practical strategies, and it’s given me some valuable insights that I’ve been putting into practice.
Here’s what I’ve learned and have implemented ๐

- Small Consistent Changes: Rubin emphasizes that small and tiny adjustments in daily habits can lead to significant improvements in overall happiness. So, iโve started incorporating small changes into my routine, like setting aside time for hobbies and daily reflection, and Iโm already seeing positive results to my overall demeanour
- Focus on Core Values: Understanding what truly matters to me has helped me focus my energy on what brings genuine fulfillment for me. Reflecting on my core values has really allowed me to align my actions with my priorities, making life more meaningful (so far anyway)
- Act the Way You Want to Feel: Rubinโs idea of acting in line with your desired emotions has resonated with me. By engaging in activities that bring joy, even on days when motivation can be low, Iโm shifting my mindset and boosting my mood
- Daily Gratitude Practice: Setting aside time each day to practice gratitude has enhanced wellbeing, I do this most days anyway, but I guess it just re-iterates that and appreciating the positive aspects of life helps keep things in perspective
- Prioritize Joyful Activities: Making an effort to regularly do activities that bring me joy, regardless of how Iโm feeling, and what anyone else says
- Connect with Loved Ones: Nurturing and strengthening relationships with friends and family is another key to adding happiness. However, thereโs stuff in therapy thatโs really changed this, but I guess Iโve been more intentional about connecting with loved ones and why etc
- Embrace the Present Moment: Focusing on being present and enjoying the moment has led to a more fulfilling experience of life, this was something I read in the Power of Now, as this ties nicely with meditation I do daily
- Set and Pursue Personal Goals: Aligning some daily actions with my long term goals makes sure that Iโm progressing toward what I truly want, and thatโs been helpful, but Iโd been kinda doing that anyway
Overall, The Happiness Project has been more than just an inspiring read; itโs a practical guide I guess anyone to make meaningful changes. By focusing on these actionable steps, I do believe that Iโm finding more joy in everyday moments. If youโre looking for inspiration to boost your own happiness, I definitely recommend giving it a look
